Election FAQs

What are the requirements to be nominated for election? 

A Regular Member, in good standing, may nominate himself/herself or a candidate for an Officer position or Regional Director for his or her region, which nomination must be accepted by the nominee, in writing, to the Chairperson of the Election Committee on or before January 1st of any election year.

Regional Directors shall be elected by the Regular Members in good standing residing in the region and that Regional Director must be a sworn law/commissioned enforcement officer and employed/appointed in the region when elected and throughout their term. Regional Directors will be elected for a three (3) year term or until their successor is elected or appointed. Any Regional Director may seek an office in NASRO provided the requirements of the bylaws are met.

In order to be eligible to hold office as an Officer or Regional Director, an individual must be a Regular Member employed or appointed as a School Resource Officer (or substantially similar position) or a SRO supervisor. In the event the individual ceases to be employed or appointed as a School Resource Officer (or substantially similar position) or a SRO supervisor, the individual shall promptly notify the President of his or her status.

 

Can I campaign on other platforms besides the two news blasts sent out by NASRO?

Yes, you may campaign on as many social media platforms as you wish.

 

What is a Campaign Platform and what should be included?

A Campaign Platform will explain what it is that you hope to achieve if elected. It is common practice to list specific goals and objectives. All Members will have access to your Campaign Platform on the NASRO Website.

Can one of my email blasts be a video?

Yes, you can make a video that can be sent to your region.  You may also make social media posts, write a letter, etc.  

 

What are the expectations of Regional Directors?

Each Regional Director shall be elected to a three (3) year term of office and must attend the Annual Board Meeting in addition to Special Meetings that may be called.  Regional Directors serve as a regional liaison to our Members and  should correspond and support Members in their Region.  All Members of the Board will be placed on Committees to further NASRO’s Mission.  

 

How many times will the voting link be sent to members?

The voting link will go out two times during the election time period. The second link will only go to those new members since the first link went out.  

 

How long is the election period?

Elections will be open for 6 weeks.   

 

Will my employment be verified?

All candidates will be vetted by the NASRO Elections Committee.  A part of this process we will be contacting your employer to verify your employment and current position. 

 

Should I provide a resume and photograph?

Yes!  If you are interested in a NASRO Board position, you will be given the opportunity to upload your biography, campaign platform and photograph.   

 

How will I be notified with the election results?  

After the 6 week window for the election process is complete, the NASRO Elections Committee will reach out to all candidates with the results.  

 

Does NASRO provide the voting links?

No.  In an effort to keep the integrity of the election process, NASRO uses an outside company to send the voting inks and tally the votes.
