No 100% reliable way exists to determine immediately if a report of an active shooter at a school is real or a swatting hoax, NASRO executive director Mo Canady told the WV News.
For that reason, until responders get on the scene and diagnose the situation, law enforcement agencies and schools must take every such report seriously, Canady told the news website. Thinking that such a call is just another hoax could delay a response and cost lives, Canady said.
