School resource officers on a campus can help reduce the size of an emergency response to a hoax shooter report, also known as "swatting," NASRO executive director Mo Canady told news website The Trace.
Canady said having a carefully selected and specifically trained school resource officer on campus can help diagnose the situation quickly when a hoax report of an active shooter comes in, and bring it to a conclusion without the unnecessary involvement of outside law enforcement. This reduces risk inherent in emergency responses to any incident, Canady explained.
