A Message from our Executive Director Regarding the Pandemic

Published Wednesday, March 18, 2020 by Mo Canady

Hello NASRO Family,

I would like to provide you with an update on NASRO’s office operations as we make adjustments in light of the current national crisis.

First, I would like to share a thought regarding a question that has been posed to me over the last few days, regarding to the role of an SRO during school closures. That will, of course, be dictated by individual departments, but I suggest that some consideration be given to the idea of SROs assisting with the delivery of meals to students who participate in free and reduced-price lunch programs. This could be helpful in maintaining positive relationships with students during this unexpected time away.

School safety is a critically important element of our society. Whatever our new normal becomes, school safety will certainly continue to be an issue and specialized training of school-based officers will be a priority. We will continue to conduct NASRO training in as normal of a way as possible. We recognize, however, that this is a very fluid situation that can be prone to changes on an hourly basis. We will certainly pay attention to recommendations set forward by the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. As of now, we are working with local hosts who might need to postpone or reschedule NASRO training courses. If you are registered for a NASRO training course, we will notify you by email if the course you are scheduled to attend is postponed. You may also check the NASRO website or call our office at 1-888-316-2776 to check on any postponed classes. Our staff is working remotely but the primary number is still being answered to provide you with the absolute best customer service.

Planning for the NASRO National School Safety Conference, scheduled for July 5-10 in Dallas, Texas, is still on-going and there are no plans to cancel or postpone this very important week of training. If that should change, we will let you know immediately.

Do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance to you in any way.

For now, I extend the hopes and prayers of our staff and board for good health and safety for each and every one of you.

Sincerely,

Mo Canady

Executive Director
