Bernard James - Professor of Constitutional Law at Pepperdine University

Bernard James is Professor of Constitutional Law at Pepperdine University. Professor James is a nationally recognized expert on civil rights and education reform. He serves as a senior consultant to the U.S. Department of Justice where he recently co-authored Sharing Information: A Guide to FERPA and Participation in Juvenile Justice Programs. Bernie James will bring current information for administrators and SROs regarding FERPA, IDEA and other important topics.

Elizabeth Koller - Executive Director, Perspectives On Growth And Development, Inc.; Contributing Editor, Journal of School Safety

Elizabeth Koller is dedicated to providing an educational understanding of the child and adolescent brain. She presents her scholarly research in a lively and understandable way explaining the brain's maturation process from childhood to age 25, when the brain is fully mature. The "under construction" brain explains limitations in a child's ability in decision-making abilities, judgment, understanding outcomes of actions and impulse control. Fascinating studies and relevant examples will be shared.

Stephanie Crews-Jones - Intelligence Analyst in the Crimes Against Children Unit at FBI Headquarters

Featured Speakers on Tuesday, July 29th:

FBI presentation by Joan Dodge and Stephanie Crews-Jones, on child abductions to include information on the resources and services the FBI will provide to state and local law enforcement in the event of a mysterious disappearance of a child. The presentation will include several child abduction case studies and will provide SROs, as potential first responders, with information on how to best prepare for a child abduction.

Joan Dodge is a Supervisory Special Agent in the FBI's Crimes Against Children Unit at FBIHQ. The unit handles child abductions, child prostitution, child sex tourism, and various other federal violations involving child exploitation. Joan has been an agent for 10 years, and has primarily investigated child exploitation cases. She is the program manager for the FBI's Child Abduction Rapid Deployment (CARD) Teams.

Stephanie Crews-Jones is an Intelligence Analyst in the Crimes Against Children Unit at FBI Headquarters. She has been in the FBI for 10 years primarily working crimes against children matters. She is currently responsible for CARD Team and sex offender matters. IA Crews-Jones has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Criminology Studies from George Mason University. Prior to the joining the FBI, IA Crews-Jones worked with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. IA Crews-Jones recently coordinated with Choicepoint Government Services to design the Registered Sex Offender Locator Tool (ReSOLT) - a technology enabled solution that assists in sex offender oriented investigations.

Senator Todd Lamb - Oklahoma State Senate

Senator Lamb will be presenting "An Analytical Approach to School Security". He has served in the Oklahoma Senate since his election on November 2, 2004. Senator Lamb has been a Special Agent with the US Secret Service; he was appointed to the national Joint Terrorism Task Force; he was assigned to portions of the 9-11 investigation. Senator Lamb is currently an attorney. He stays abreast in the areas of comprehensive physical security communicating and works with security specialists throughout the country. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State and his law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law.

Phil Chalmers – Author
Featured for Workshops on Thursday, July 31st:

Phil Chalmers is an author and national speaker, former police chaplain, and youth culture expert. His latest project is a book for Thomas Nelson titled "Inside the Mind of a Teen Killer," Phil's ten year study on juvenile homicide and juvenile mass murder. Phil has written many books, produced several documentaries, and has been featured in numerous media venues including the Montel Williams Show and the Howard Stern Show.

Daryl Macaluso – Certified Gang Identification Specialist
Featured for Workshops on Tuesday, July 29th:

Corporal Daryl Macaluso was featured in the North Carolina Justice Academy 2006 training video on gangs. He has spent four years as an School Resource Officer in middle and high school; teaches Gang Resistance Education And Training and supervises Durham's G.R.E.A.T. unit. He was an instructor for the North Carolina Military Academy (Fort Bragg NC, Army National Guard). He is the South Eastern Representative for the International Latino Gang Investigators Association and a member of the following associations; National Gang Investigators Association; East Coast Gang Investigators Association; North Carolina School Resource Officer Association; and North Carolina Gang Investigators Association.
